Inclusive holiday camps: welcome, understand, accompany
For two years, Afrotitude Home chooses to open your holiday camps to children with special needs. A committed choice. A demanding choice. But above all, a deeply human choice.
Who are these children we welcome?
Our inclusive camps receive:
Children with disabilities:
motor, sensory (visual, auditory) or intellectual impairments.Children with learning or cognitive disabilities:
dyslexia, dyspraxis, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD (attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity).Socially vulnerable children:
orphaned or from low-resource families.
Some follow a classical school curriculum, others benefit from a suitable course, and some are not yet in school. Their realities are diverse, but their needs have one thing in common: to be understood, accompanied and valued.
Understanding before acting
Over the course of the editions, our experience allowed us to interact at length with the parents. These conversations were decisive.
What struck us the most?
These children need appropriate therapies and activities that promote:
Socialization
The development of autonomy
Self-control
Trust in their capabilities
And, in the long term, economic independence in adulthood
The stakes therefore go beyond mere entertainment. The aim is to contribute to their overall development.
Meeting the challenge: our approach
Taking care of these children during the holiday camps is an important challenge. We chose to raise it with method and commitment.
We first adapted the choice of workshops:
Plastic arts
Painting
Drawing
Dance
Educational outings and discoveries
These activities are not randomly chosen. They stimulate expression, develop fine motor skills, encourage creativity and strengthen self-esteem.
At the same time, we work with health professionals and coaches who are sensitized to support children with special needs. This synergy provides a secure, caring and structuring environment.
Results that make sense
Today, we can be proud of the progress we have made.
Our workshops really contribute to the development of children. We see progress in communication, emotional management, ability to work as a group and personal initiative.
Uriel, one of our first children with special needs, participating in the 2024 holiday camp, particularly marked us.
Initially reserved, sometimes in retreat, he gradually found his place in the group. What touched us most about him is his sense of solidarity.
Uriel was spontaneously looking after the youngest. He shared his equipment. He encouraged his comrades during artistic activities. He became, in his own way, a small positive leader.
Its evolution reminds us of one essential thing:
When a child is offered a secure, rewarding and inclusive space, it reveals unsuspecting resources.
More than a camp, a mission
The inclusive holiday camps of Afrotitude Home are not only leisure spaces.
They are places of transformation.
Places where every child, whatever his or her particularity, can experience the joy of belonging to a group.
Places where difference is not an obstacle, but a wealth.
Et si l’inclusion commence par un simple geste — ouvrir ses portes — elle se construit ensuite chaque jour, avec patience, professionnalisme et cœur.
Parce qu’au fond, chaque enfant mérite une chance de grandir, de s’exprimer et de croire en son potentiel.
Mais nous ne pouvons pas porter cette mission seuls.
